DSM Pet Sitting

Des Moines Pet Sitters

When you have a pet, proper care is crucial. Whether you’re planning on heading out on vacation, visiting family during the holidays, or you must work extra hours during the week, finding the right pet sitter or dog walker is incredibly important. That’s where DSM Pet Sitting comes in. Our experienced team of dedicated pet lovers will take excellent care of your dog or cat when you can’t be there and make sure he or she has everything they need while you’re away.

COVID-19 Precautions
We understand that COVID-19 is an unprecedented situation and you may be wondering whether pet sitting can continue during this time. Our sitters can provide safe, reliable care so that your animals routine isn’t interrupted, especially if you are working long hours in an essential capacity like healthcare. We will wear a mask and gloves if entering your home, and wear a mask if out dog walking. We will also maintain a 6-foot distance from others during the walk. While human-to-pet transmission is rare, we will also wash our hands thoroughly before and after interacting with your animal. If this is your first time booking with us, we can arrange a in person or virtual meet-and-greet via Zoom, FaceTime, etc. to get to know each other beforehand. And as always, we will never come to work if we feel unwell and can help arrange a replacement sitter if needed.

Pet Sitting/Drop-In Visits

A shorter visit may be the best option if you just need someone to let your dog out to use the bathroom, change cat litter, refresh food and water bowls, and give them a little love and attention. Dog walking can be added on, too. We offer drop-in visits in 20-minute, 30-minute, and one-hour sessions.

Dog Walking

Like us, our animals need regular exercise to stay healthy, but we know that daily walks can be a tight squeeze in a busy schedule. Regular walks also help your dog sleep better and reduce boredom. They’re especially important for high-energy breeds, who may resort to destructive behaviors when they don’t get enough exercise or stimulation. Our experienced dog walkers will take Fido out so you don’t have to stress while you’re at work or an appointment. Let us know if you have any favorite routes and if your dog has any triggers during walks, such as other dogs, cars, kids, bikers, etc.

Pet Transportation

Sometimes your cat or dog needs a taxi, too! Let us help you safely transport your pet to a last-minute vet appointment that conflicts with work, the groomer, a boarding facility, a relative’s house, or for a move across town. Our licensed, careful drivers will keep your dog or cat comfortable on the drive and stop for them to use the bathroom if needed. If you have limited access to a car, are injured, don’t want young kids in the car, or would prefer not to take your furry friend on public transit, we’re here for you.

Overnight Pet Sitting and House Sitting

An overnight stay is a great option for longer trips, pets with separation anxiety, elderly animals or ones with special medical needs, and puppy sitting, who usually need more frequent potty breaks and playtime. This allows us to monitor your animals throughout the day and give them extra attention and care. It most closely follows your regular routine and provides the least interruption to your furry family. We can also incorporate house sitting tasks like bringing in the mail and watering plants. Plus, your home will look lived in while you’re on vacation, which deters intruders.

Benefits of Hiring a Professional Pet Sitter

When you choose us for your sitting needs, you and your furry family will reap the benefits. Here’s what you can expect when you hire our pet sitting pros:

  1. Happier at Home – Animals are less stressed and more comfortable in a familiar environment. Rather than introduce them to somewhere new (like a boarding center), they can relax and enjoy being at home while you’re away. This can be highly beneficial for furry friends with separation anxiety or who get nervous in new places.

  2. Convenience for You – With the help of our trusted professionals, there’s no need to schedule a drop off or pick up time, no rushing to make it back to the boarding facility, and no need to worry if there’s an emergency and you’ll be late getting back.

  3. A Safe and Secure House – When the sitters arrive to check on your furry friend, they can check on your home as well. Since there will be someone going into your home during the day, it will look occupied, which deters thieves and helps keep it secure.

  4. Lower Risk of Health Issues – While most boarding centers require up-to-date vaccinations, it’s still possible for animals to be sick at the facility. When your furry friend is at home, you don’t have to worry about whether they’ve been around sick animals.

Finding the Right Pet Sitter

Once you’ve decided to hire an experienced sitter, the next step is finding the right fit for you. Here’s what you can count on when you hire us to watch your beloved dog or cat:

  • Qualifications and Training – Ask us about our specialized training and the various types of services we’ve performed!

  • Licenses and Insurance – We are fully licensed and insured in the state of Iowa.

  • Communication – How will the team get in touch with you while you’re away? Let us know how we can contact you for an emergency as well as the best way to provide updates while you're gone.

  • Service Fees – Transparency is important to us. We will always be upfront about fees before booking. Talk to us ahead of time about any extras or add-ons for specialized care.

  • Meet-and-Greets – One of our team members will visit to conduct a meet-and-greet before hiring so you can see how they interact with the pets in your home. This is a great chance to get to know the person who will be caring for your furry family, see if they are a good match, and address any questions or concerns.

How To Prepare for a Sitter's Visit

Before it’s time to leave on vacation or for work, there are a few things you can do to make this a seamless experience for both of us. The tips below will ensure everything is all set. And of course, please don’t hesitate to make additional requests when it comes to your pet’s care.

  • Leave Detailed Information – We’ll discuss these items before booking, but it’s also good to leave out detailed info about your animals food, feeding times, medications, and any other must-knows. Include emergency contact information, your vet’s phone number, and the number for the closest preferred emergency vet.

  • Ensure Supplies Are Accessible – Use a bin or set out the supplies that we’ll need for proper pet care in a designated spot. This includes bowls, food, treats, litter, a leash, brushes, favorite toys, and their carrier or crate.

  • Give a Neighbor an Extra Key – Always make sure a neighbor or a family member has an extra key to the home just in case. Leave their phone number with us and ensure they have our phone number, too.

  • Show Us Around the House – Before departure, show our team member around and explain the security system/locks, how to shut off the electricity or water if needed, the heating/cooling system, and any other particulars they may need to know about caring for your home and furry loved one.

  • Make Early Reservations – The earlier you reserve a spot, the more likely we’ll have time slots available. Though emergency travels happen, it’s best to schedule a service as soon as you know the dates you’ll be gone.
